Sophie Dahl (née Holloway) was born in London on September 15, 1977, to actor Julian Holloway and writer Tessa Dahl. With Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Neal, famed children's author Roald Dahl, and British actor Stanley Holloway for grandparents, it's no wonder this stunner has made a name for herself.
As a child, being shifted between Los Angeles and boarding school in England proved difficult for Sophie. By the time she was 18 Sophie had been kicked out of school. However, a chance encounter would change her life forever.
In 1995 after an argument with her mother, a distressed Sophie was spotted on the street by style icon and editor Isabella Blow. Isabella, who was responsible in part for the careers of both model Stella Tennant and designer Alexander McQueen, was convinced of Sophie's unique beauty and referred her to Storm Models in London. She landed spots in many big-name magazines, including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, and Marie Claire, but it was her controversial nude appearance in Yves Saint Laurent's ad for its fragrance Opium in 2000 that really put Sophie in the spotlight. Loved for her shapely figure and charming demeanor, she also lent her face to ads for Versace, Pringle of Scotland, Banana Republic, Gap, and Godiva.
Sophie eventually took a break from modeling to explore acting and writing. In 2001 she hit the stage in the U.K. production of The Vagina Monologues, and later starred in a number of small films. In 2003 she published her first book, The Man with the Dancing Eyes, and later penned two more, Playing with the Grown-Ups (2008), and Miss Dahl's Voluptuous Delights (2009).
Add her engagement to boyfriend Jamie Cullum to her list of successes and it's obvious that Sophie will always be sitting pretty.
