Fashion Week Runway Beauty Report: Lashes

The fall runway was proof that there is a lash trend going on. Specifically false lashes are making a big comeback. A look that was big in the 1960s and then again in the 1980s, you don’t need a prescription to have lustful lashes. The difference between today’s lash trend and those of past decades is that this is a time in beauty where it's not about softness and a natural façade. It's about enhancing what you have to give it a look-at-me individual style factor. Bold looks are back. And with a twist!

Quirky beauty is in. It's okay to play it a little offbeat with this trend. For Chanel's Fall 2009 show, makeup artist Peter Philips wanted a black and white graphic lash, so he commissioned an embroidered fake lash made with tulle and sequins, which he glued to the models' bottom lashes.

We saw full sets of lashes, big and small, coming down the runway for fall. We also saw some that were cut or personalized to enhanced just the middle lashes. But whatever the look, it wasn't done with perfection, which proves that when it comes to beauty, it's okay to be daring and different. Makeup artist Lucia Pieroni highlighted just the top lashes at Zac Posen. The result was an opened-up eye that appeared almost doll-like.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different lash styles and colors. The vamplike lashes at Armani took the look to new lengths.

Backstage beauty secret revealed: Put on a little mascara before applying falsies. This will help the lashes adhere and also makes it easier to coat hard to reach lashes rather than doing it while the falsies are on and risk disturbing the look. Also add eye liner and a bit of eye color to your lash line before applying the false lashes so that there isn't a gap between the real and false ones after the application.

Take lash out of box and grip in the middle with your tweezers. Apply lash glue across the band. Blow on the glue a bit to harden it and to make it more adhesive. While looking down, apply the lashes across your lash line. Using a thin handle from a makeup brush, gently press the false lash against your lash line. Let the glue dry.

Once glue is dry, hide lashes by reapplying eyeliner across the band for a flawless look. Then apply mascara, blending your natural eyelashes with your new fabulous false ones.

To remove, gently pull at the tips of the lashes. Don't worry, it's painless. Remove any adhesive that's left on your lashes so that they'll be ready to reuse the next time that you need them. Lashes will last for up to four applications. Store them in their original packaging so they retain their shape.
