Fall's Beauty Trends

Bold makeup dominated the Fall 2009 runways, and Eric Sakas, creator of Vapour Beauty , shows you how to get the looks you loved.

Bold Cheeks, Bold Eyes, Bold Lips Creating a balance in the face is a noticeable trend this season. Designers are going strong on the eyes, lips, and cheeks.

Get the Anna Sui look: 1. Line the entire eye with black liner. Next circle the eye in black shadow. Sweep on a taupe brown shadow around the entire eye area, applying just slightly beyond the outside corner of the eye. Curl the lashes and add a coat of mascara. 2. Define cheeks with Vapour Aura Blush in Torch. 3. Complete the look with a cherry red stain, topping off with a coat of lip gloss.

Bold Eyes The eyes seem to rule the runway, from very refined liquid-lined looks to dramatic smoky effects. A throwback to the eighties, elevated with wings, and more—just look at Chanel Couture, Bagdley Mischka, Jean Paul Gaultier, or Marc Jacobs.

To get the bold, refined eye from the Chanel show: 1. Line the entire eye with liquid black eyeliner, beginning at the inside corner of the top and bottom of the eye and drawing a thick wing outward and upward. Next draw a line into the crease and connect the wing. Fill in the lid with black liner or black eye shadow. 2. Curl the lashes and brush on a few coats of mascara.

Bold Eyes, Bold Brows, Bold Lips This has been a strong trend on the runways. A marriage between "Biker Chic" and "Old Hollywood Glamour" has taken hold. Look for smoky or refined eyes paired with bold or red lips and strong brows bringing drama everywhere.

Get the dramatic Christian Dior look: 1. Line top lid with liquid liner from the inside corner, increasing the width of the line as you approach the outside corner, winging outward and upward. Follow the shape of the eye with the liner above the lash line to just below the natural crease, creating a small arc. 2. Take a pale, shimmery shadow and sweep upward from lash line to brow from inside corner to outer. 3. Enhance brow area by filling in with a brow pencil. 4. Curl lashes and sweep on a few coats of mascara. 5. Line lips with red lip liner and apply a coat of matte red lipstick.

Bold Brows One of the big trends of the season was bold brows. Think Brooke Shields from the eighties. It's not about the overly tweezed, manicured perfect brow. It's about letting your natural brows take the stage. We saw this on many of the shows from Armani Privé to Christian Lacroix and Balenciaga to Anna Sui.
