Fashion Week's Most Memorable Moments

The Spring 2010 collections mark the last showing at the Tents before New York Fashion Week moves to Lincoln Center. Fern Mallis, vice president of IMG Fashion, recalls some of the highlights from previous seasons at Bryant Park.

We can hardly wait for Fashion Week to get here. In anticipation, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on some of the most iconic fashion moments born in the Tents. Who better to ask than Fern Mallis, vice president of IMG Fashion and creator of Fashion Week in New York as we know it.

"During Bill Blass' last show in the Tents in 1999, the wind and rain were so intense from Hurricane Floyd that we were certain the Tents would pick up right then and land somewhere in Pennsylvania." The Tents wouldn't be blown away, but they would be shut down. Following a directive from Mayor Giuliani's office, organizers canceled all remaining shows the day after the Bill Blass finale.

"When Mayor Bloomberg gave a speech welcoming everyone back to New York the season following the tragedy of 9/11, the feeling in the Tents was much smaller and somber."

"The 1994 Isaac Mizrahi collection became the inspiration for the documentary film Unzipped."

"When Gianni Versace kicked off Fashion Week in the early nineties, the show was filled with the impressive iconic Versace logo seat covers that swathed every chair in the venue."

"This is from Sean John's first collection in Bryant Park, when 75 fabulous straight men in fur coats walked the runway in true Sean John style, decked out in diamonds."

Fern's memories got us thinking about some of our favorite moments. Of course, the Project Runway Season 1 finale will go down in history as the season that started it all.

Iekeliene Stange's platinum blonde strut down the runway during the Fall 2009 shows took our breathe away.

Brian Reyes' Fall 2009 show will forever be remembered for the models' barefoot finale.
