Runway Hair Trends: Get the Look from Carolina Herrera

The Carolina Herrera Spring 2010 collection was inspired by intricate forms woven in Japanese baskets. Hairstylist Orlando Pita created beautiful, low-twisted chignons with touches of seed-beads swept throughout the hair. See how he did it.

Orlando Pita is a hair design magician. For the last two decades, he has been a stylist to the stars, creating amazing looks for celebrities, including Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Julianne Moore. But on the runway is where his most fabulous hair designs come to life. Orlando Pita has worked his magic for Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Narciso Rodriguez, and this past Fashion Week was the master behind the looks of the Carolina Herrera Spring 2010 show.

"We used argan-oil infused Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream to prime the hair and give it a natural-looking, frizz-free texture with a soft hold," notes Orlando. "The beads were designed to blend subtly through the hair, appearing almost as if they were embedded in the strands themselves." Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream is a leave-in styling cream formulated to eliminate frizz and to condition and hydrate hair.

He played with texture to keep looks relaxed and piece-y. Tip: Rather than use a brush to blow-dry strands, Orlando mussed hair with his fingers as he blow-dried to enhance the tresses' natural separation and create further definition.

Style Steps First prep hair for blow-drying using the Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream to give your mane a silky shine and soft hold. While blow-drying each section, lightly mist Moroccanoil® Luminous Hair Spray over hair to lend increased holding power. Tip: Another coat of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hair Spray "lends even more texture and helps provide grip when pinning the chignon into place," says Orlando. The argan-oil infused hair spray, which was previewed at Fashion Week, will be available in December 2009.

Sectioning off the very front of the hair from ear to ear, place the beaded headband along the part and pull the front section back over the band, interweaving its beaded strands with the natural hair.

Gently twist the hair and beads back into a knot and twist under. Finish with a light misting of Moroccanoil® Luminous Hair Spray for a lasting hold and healthy-looking hair.
