New Moon-Inspired Beauty Trends

Get ready for the New Moon premiere by experimenting with some of these vampire-inspired beauty trends.

Thanks to series like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, as well as the Twilight saga, beauty trends are heading in a whole new direction: Vampire chic—dark intense eyes, blood red lips, and pale complexions—is suddenly in vogue.

To achieve flawless-looking skin that needs no foundation, exfoliate to reduce discoloration or uneven skin tone. Dr. Patricia Wexler developed an easy two-step exfoliating glyco peel that will get the job done in just five minutes a day. “Exfoliation is key to supporting cell turnover. A daily exfoliator will help promote healthier-looking skin," says Dr. Wexler. "Then add an ethereal glow to your skin with a shimmering luminizer."

If dark lips are too dramatic for your style profile, opt for a classic deep red look. Choose a stain rather than a smear of color to create the modern version of the red lip.

DuWop Cosmetics teamed up with Twilight Beauty to create Twilight Venom—a shimmering crimson lip stain suspended in a venom-laced liquid lip conditioner with a super potent bite. "In the movie, venom is the means by which Stephenie Meyer’s mortals become transformed into vampires. With a customizable ruby stain, Twilight Venom can let you play the part!" says DuWop creative director Cristina Bartolucci.

No vampire look would be complete without those dark-rimmed eyes. But if you'd rather not go so heavy on the eyeliner, an '80s-inspired look or smoky eye can produce just as haunting an effect.

To create the smudgy, vampy eye, start with a damp brush and apply loose black eye shadow up to the crease of your eyelid. (Using a wet brush will create darker, longer lasting color.) Gently lift your eyelid and line the inside of your eye with an onyx eyeliner. Repeat with lower lid. Smudge shadow on lower lash line, going thicker as you work your way out; repeat on top. Apply black mascara and line the inside of your lid with a dark eyeliner on the outer corner.

Eyebrows have been a beauty focus for a few seasons now, but for this winter's vampire trend less is not best. Instead keep your brows thick and dark, but still well groomed. Don't be afraid to take them a shade or two darker for a really striking look.

Use a brow pencil equipped with a soft brow brush. The pencil should be firm enough to allow you to draw on hair-thin lines. Once applied, use the brush to feather the lines into your brow for a natural look.
