Behind the Scenes: Iman & Chanel Iman

Transcript

CHANEL IMAN:
Hey. Hey, Modelinia. How are you?

IMAN:
This is Chanel Iman.

CHANEL IMAN:
Chanel and Iman.

IMAN:
Chanel, Iman. Get it?

MALE:
That's it.

IMAN:
We're doing People magazine 35th anniversary issue.

CHANEL IMAN:
You look absolutely gorgeous. It's a great day. It's full of energy.

IMAN:
Come on, step on it.

CHANEL IMAN:
I'm writing notes like, hurry, let's go. Make it snappy. (LAUGH) That's Iman.

IMAN:
That's working it. All right. Now we’re talking. Now we're talking.

CHANEL IMAN:
All the clothes are so beautiful. I want all of this. It makes a girl feel so special when she's wearing such beautiful clothes.

IMAN:
Oh, lovely clothes. What are you wearing?

CHANEL IMAN:
You had a problem with your clothes today, Miss Iman.

IMAN:
Oh, well, it wasn't me. It was the stylist. (LAUGH) I'm not mentioning names but he knows who he is. (LAUGH) Yeah, huh.

CHANEL IMAN:
I love her because I remember when I was a little girl and, my first campaign that I ever saw was Iman and her husband for Tommy Hilfiger. It was a black and white campaign. It was so beautiful. It caused me to have chills through my body and I stuck that picture up on my wallet just thinking that I was gonna grow up to be something like she is.

IMAN:
And she made me proud. You make me proud.

CHANEL IMAN:
Oh, thank you.

INTERVIEWER:
What do you want to teach Chanel?

IMAN:
Uh, all the bad behaviors (LAUGH) that makes a supermodel. Insult the stylist, first, especially if he doesn’t bring what you like. No. Be nice. Be nice. Nice can take you really far but at the same time really do have your point of view because at the end of the day, our image is our currency and if the picture doesn't look good, do they say the photographer was bad? No. Do they say the hair and makeup was bad? No. Do they say the stylist was bad? No.

CHANEL IMAN:
No.

IMAN:
Who they say was bad?

CHANEL IMAN:
The model.

IMAN:
There you go.

CHANEL IMAN:
Because she made herself who she is, Ms. Iman. She had a voice. She was a character and I think that's very important for me to make myself a personality and come alive. So people can see my life through my images. With the diversity on the runway, it's getting better. But we need more diversity in the campaigns. It's getting a little better but the first couple of pages in the magazine is not, you know, ethnic girls.

IMAN:
It's amazing. At this age, 2009, almost 2010, with Obama in the presidency that we should be even talking about this. It's kind of weak but you do the best you can and you'll really be just be true to yourself, and don't embarrass your parents. Please.

CHANEL IMAN:
You got to stay positive and secure with yourself and do you. You're with Chanel and Iman and you're watching Modelinia.
