ERIN WASSON
This is Erin Wasson, and we're backstage at the Alexander Wang show.

It started really organically. Alex and I--we became really fast friends. It's so much fun working with him. It doesn't even feel like you're working. You know, I think we share a lot of the same ideals and a lot of the same sort of aesthetics and whatnot.

As a model, you don't get the opportunity to say too much. All of these girls, they all have awesome stories, and they're all incredibly dynamic women that come from all different corners of the world. And all you see is picture of a girl. You don’t know where she's from. You don’t know what she's about. You don’t know who she is. You know, you get to a point where you’re just like, “You know what? I want to be something more, and I want to do something more, and I want to say something more.”

I have sort of met a bunch of kids that were working through Rvca. They've got an amazing artist program where they collaborate with many different people from many different places. And I was lucky enough to meet Pat, the guy who owns the company. And he asked if I would start designing for him. I couldn’t believe that somebody was giving me that kind of opportunity.

When you’re styling for another designer, you have to respect the fact that this is theirs and these are their clothes. And you don’t want to put too much of your mark on their collection. But when you're designing your own things, it's like balls to the walls. You can do whatever you want.

It's been amazing. I had so much fun. And it was such a success. And just seeing it all come into fruition after working on it for the last year, it’s just mind-blowing. I know that if you really want something, if you work hard enough, then you can make it happen.
