I'm here with Christian Siriano with his brand new studio. Let's hear for the recession 'cause you have certainly upgraded in the last year.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
We try. How are you?
VERONICA WEBB:
You did, you did. I'm good.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
God, you look fabulous in this print.
VERONICA WEBB:
Well, of course. I mean, he made the dress, so what's gonna happen, right? We're gonna get together and it's gonna just be magic. So, Christian.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
What's going on?
VERONICA WEBB:
The definition of fierce.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
Oh, my gosh. I always said that, like, fierce is kind of just like about kind of a finding that confidence yourself and being extra powerful in your own way, I guess.
VERONICA WEBB:
The woman who embodies your collection for fall 2010, who is she?
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
I don’t even know who she is. She's kind of Parisian 1960s but it’s very glamorous, and it's about like actually getting dressed. You’re not wearing just jeans and a T-shirt every day.
VERONICA WEBB:
I always say that a model is to a designer what an actress is to a director or a playwright.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
100 percent.
VERONICA WEBB:
So, who you excited about?
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
One of my favorite muses, Sessilee Lopez. I love girls with personality and that are like friendly and fun. And I can just text message them be like, come hang out or, you know, can you be here an hour late? You know, it’s nice to have that, like, relationship. That's what a muse is, you know? They’re not just someone coming in trying on clothes and that's it.
VERONICA WEBB:
What’s the must-have from your collection this time?
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
The must-have. An amazing cocktail dress and we have these pop colors of fuchsia and this kind of like royal cobalt blue.
VERONICA WEBB:
All right. So, let's go play in your collection.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
Let's play.
VERONICA WEBB:
Yeah. This is like my favorite part of the fashion experience. Christian is gonna show us his collection first.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
The little bits.
VERONICA WEBB:
A little bits, not everything, not everything.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
This is kind of like the, you know, this overcoats, swing coats, um...
VERONICA WEBB:
Oh, show me the color on that.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
With this kind of dramatic collar that drapes high or low. You can wear it in a different ways.
VERONICA WEBB:
Black and white to me always works forever, forever, forever, forever.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
There's some great kind of cool leather pieces.
VERONICA WEBB:
Oh, I have to try it on. This is so cute.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
Really cute.
VERONICA WEBB:
That's a dress, honey. That's a dress.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
That kind of looks like leather. It has its texture but it's super soft, stretchy. This kind of world is getting into some of my favorite pieces. I mean, obvious, this is very signature me. This is kind of cascading raffle dresses.
VERONICA WEBB:
This boy is a star.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
You know, we try.
VERONICA WEBB:
Shoes, shoes, shoes, shoes, shoes.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
Everything originally was inspired by 18th and 19th century like French antique furniture.
VERONICA WEBB:
All right.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
So that was the idea of like having the shoes kind of be like claw foot tubs and, and chair legs and all those.
VERONICA WEBB:
Oh, really? How high is this, by the way? P.S.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
This is definitely a good six incher.
VERONICA WEBB:
This is like trying to drive a monster truck.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
I know. I can wear them now.
VERONICA WEBB:
Of course, you can. So, what would you say is one of the stand out trends of your collection?
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
It's about glamour. You can buy your great T-shirts and your great nets and your jersey pieces, and Donna does that every season and they're stunning. I can't really compete with that. So, um...
VERONICA WEBB:
Right.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO:
...let me have my own world where I'm really good at evening and cocktail and like that's where we’re strong. (LAUGH) That's what I think.
VERONICA WEBB:
Amen, brother. I mean, clearly, you know, the public is with you. So there you go, talking fierce with Christian Siriano.
