JOHNNY LAVOY:
For Fall 2009 warm pallets of russet and cocoa's rule the runways of some designers here New York City. The key to getting the look right, a smooth, matte finish.

Hi. I'm Johnny Lavoy, celebrity makeup artist from Maybelline New York. Today I'm going to show you how you can recreate the hottest and latest makeup trends right off the Fall 2009 runways using products from Maybelline New York. On Susan we're going to recreate a look that looks great on almost every skin tone. And we're going to be using warm cocoa shades.

So let's get to the basics and give Susan a smooth canvas to work on. I'm going to start with a staple in my kit and that's Maybelline Cover Stick Concealer. And when you're applying concealer it's important to remember to only put it where you need it. And that's going to be on blemishes or dark circles. So I'm going to go in and as you could see, she has just a little blemish right there. And just pat in, in a circular motion. And that blemish disappears. I'm also going to just take away any discoloration under her eyes. Again, using a light patting motion. And you see how little you actually need. Continue that with the other side. As you see as I'm putting it on my finger first, because I like the heat from my body to really warm up the concealer so it pats in really nicely. You don't want a cakey under eye concealer. And you just blend it out. The next thing I'm going to do is move on to foundation. I've decided to use Dream Matte Mousse Foundation because I want to create an air soft matte soft finish. And like the concealer you only want to put the foundation where you need it. Go in with a light hand and don't worry, you can always go back and apply more if you needed it. And you're going to just dab where she needs a little extra coverage and blend it out. And you can see a little goes a long way.

The next step is to apply a nice warm glow to the cheeks. And to achieve that I'm going to use Maybelline New York's Dream Mousse Bronzer. And like the foundation you're just going to dab it in on the apples of the cheeks. If you don't know what the apple of the cheeks are, smile and they'll pop right out at you. And you just blend it in. Tap a little and then just blend.

Now to carry on with this warm look we're going to move on to the eyes. And I'm going to be using Expert Wear Eye Shadow Quads in tri-latte. Now Maybelline New York has it made it really easy to use these eye shadows. Because they actually label each eye shadow to where it goes on the eye. You have your lid color, your crease color, your brow bone color, and your outer corner. So let's go ahead and start with the lid color. All you need to do is swipe the lid color along the lid right up to the crease. We're going to continue that on the other side. So the next thing we're going to do is create a little more depth in the eyes. So we're going to go to the deeper shade labeled crease and do exactly that. Go right into the crease. It's really important that you really blend this color out. Because you never want to see where one color stops and the other color starts. A great trick for blending is just have a plain brush on hand. You can go right over that and it blends out any harsh lines. Now the next thing I'm going to do is highlight. So I'm going to go to the lightest color and apply it right underneath the brow bone and that's going to give that area a nice highlight. And I'm going to repeat that step on the other side. And what I like to do is to really make that eye pop is just take a little bit of that highlight color and go in the inner corner of the eye. And that's really going to give a nice highlight. To add a little more definition in the eye now I'm going to go to an angle brush. I'm going to use the darkest color as an eyeliner. So you want to start on the outer corner and work your way towards the center. Creating a nice defined line. And for her lashes I'm going to use another makeup artist favorite and that's Great Lash Mascara. Always start at the base of the lashes and work your way up. When you're doing the lower lashes you want to hold the brush perpendicular and just use the tip of your wand to get a nice separation on the bottom lashes.

I'm going to finish off the skin with Dream Matte Powder. And what this is going to do is give me that smooth, air soft matte finish. And for her lips I'm going to use Moisture Extreme Lip Color. It's going to moisturize her lips and give sumptuous color. Now while the rest of your face has a matte finish you still want your lips to have a hint of shine. Now this is a great warm look that flatters every skin tone.
