The first time I ever had a picture published in a magazine was in Seventeen magazine and, bear in mind, I was a teenager. So there's nothing better than Seventeen magazine when you are a teen.
Hi. My name is Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp. I grew up in Pennsylvania in an extremely small town. And I didn’t know about fashion at all. I came to New York and I might have just been 15. It was a good opportunity for me to learn about responsibility and take control of my own life and my own destiny. And from there, I moved to Paris and I did the Elite Model look of the year contest and I lived in Europe and it was an amazing experience. American Vogue was really, at the time, the top of the line, so it was time to come to New York. So I was so beside myself 'cause I was there and I was working for Vogue and I was working for Irving Penn that I kept going. They ended up using it for a cover and I have kind of like, like a half smirk and a smile which wasn't it all what it was for but it was just because I couldn’t help it all day, so excited.
I had never met anyone like John. So I ended up doing this shoot and video and I was there in literally like a little sheet draped on me. And at one point in time, got up to dance in his music video, and it may have fallen off a little bit so, you know, half the time I'm like, holding it up and then, like, trying to be covered. So, I guess we got to know each other.
John has daughters. I kind of got involved with his kids and having a family and being part of a family and I love that. And, uh, suddenly I found myself in Indiana (STAMMERS) and I realized that I'm living in Indiana. We've built a life for ourselves. We found a home and it kind of rooted here so there I was in Indiana. Hi. I'm Elaine Irwin Mellencamp and you are watching Modelinia.
