Get to Know...Kojii Helnwein

KOJII HELNWEIN:
Hi, my name is Kojii Helnwein. I'm from Dublin in Ireland. I got started in modeling. But seven years ago I was here in L.A. And I knew a guy who worked as a casting director. He always said that I should model. So I went back to Ireland, found an agent, and I think within a day I was on the catwalk. It was so, all go from there.

I'm in a band called Kojii. And I'm the lead singer. I, uh, jump around and scream. And I wear a little top hat and hit people with canes, people with canes. (LAUGH)

These days I'm listening to a lot of old '40s jazz. Like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Django Reinhardt is my all time favorite. But then I'll go from that to like Mozart and Beethoven and then from that I'll go to like Marilyn Manson and maybe some Tool and Sex Pistols. So it's quite a range.

I don't even want to say it, it's so embarrassing. The designer decided to put me in like a really quick outfit, last minute so I could walk down the runway with him. And, of course, it was like almost just like a shawl. And use the broach to pin it. And I said to him, I said, this is going to fall off. He got excited and we like speed down the runway and it caught on my legs. The whole thing ripped off. And I was standing there nothing but my nude thong. It was so embarrassing. That's why I could see that no pictures of it ended up in any of the national newspapers here in the US. So that's was my most embarrassing moment.

I love living in L.A. Ireland, I also love living in. So I spend six months a year in each if I can. Because I find L.A., it's just gritty and entertaining. And here you can be who you want and nobody blinks an eye. In Ireland I love it because there's so much art there as well. There's a great music scene. They're both just super cool places. I can't, I can't choose.
