Giving Back: Noot Seear & Rose Charities

NOOT SEEAR
I'm Noot and you're watching Modelinia. I guess it all started because my father is a pediatrician, and every five years he would get a sabbatical to go to a third world country and start up a hospital there or help out an existing hospital. And he would always take us girls with him. And I spent a lot of my childhood experiencing and living in these third world countries and, and really seeing the poverty firsthand as a child. And going from that and being thrown into the fashion industry where there's so much money, having such different extremes in my life and, and being in a place where I can do something to make a difference, I think that's how this all started. My whole family, actually, has always been involved. My uncle went to Cambodia and started this eye clinic with this charity, Rose Charities. And he would perform really cheap surgeries to give people's eyesight back. We have an emergency response team. That Christmas, after the tsunami hit, we were the first people to send a team of doctors and nurses out to Sri Lanka. My dad went out there with a couple of doctor friends of his and some nurses, and these kids were drawing the most amazing pictures. My father, he sent me all these pictures with their consent. And the first charity event I did here, it was 100 of those drawings of the children and 100 donated pictures by these photographers. It was very successful.

I've been doing these crazy events in Vancouver with my mother to raise money for the projects. Basically, we would get all the top designers to donate dresses. There'd be a fashion show and then the girl will come out in the dress and the auction will start. Okay, sold for 2,500. And then the girl takes it off on the runway, and she's decked out in super sexy but classy lingerie, and it turns into an underwear show. And the next girl comes out and so on and so forth. And it's very fun. It's just a fun way to raise money. It's a huge success and we're doing it again next year. And that's only, it's only a handful of work this Rose Charities does, and I'm really proud to be a part of it.
