Organic Living: Lonneke Engel

LONNEKE ENGEL:
I love to eat healthy. I love to workout, run next to Hudson River. Organic is definitely a trend right now. But it's something I'm going to live by the rest of my life. I don't want my food to have any preservatives or hormones. Organic is the only way to go. I go to farmer's markets in Holland a lot. I'm not familiar with this one yet. But I'm going to discover what it has to offer.

Look how cool this is. This is a carrot and it's yellow. Do you know any kind of potato that is not white is very healthy for you. There's so many vitamins. Just the white ones have a lot of sugar in it. And I think at a farmer's market it's always better. 'Cause you could ask about it. What do they put in it? When can you eat it? What's your best multi-grain breads? How long do you cook them for? What else do you have that's really good? The great thing about the market is you can try everything. It's like going to lunch for free.

I'm from Holland so of course I'm attracted to the tulips. My favorite flowers is actually an orchid. I love them. If you have an empty table you just put an orchid on it, this makes the whole room come alive. 'Cause they're so colorful. How much did I spend today? I think it was about $40. So I think I got enough groceries. Let's go cook.

So I got all my stuff and now I'm going just put it all out. Now it's become like a cooking show. So, I'm basically making a simple salad with some spinach, edamame. So I'm going to cook this in the microwave for a minute. Okay, this is funny. I used my, uh, microwave for everything so the mice don't get to it. Just microwaving it for a minute. I think scallops have a great taste already. So I just put a little bit pepper, salt and I'm going to cook them in the pan, a little bit of oil. Put a little bit of spinach. I like to make my food look good, 'cause it tastes better. It's like the eye wants something too. Green is my favorite color, so I like to put a lot of green. Olive oil is very important. Organic olive oil. The scallops are good with a lot of taste. A little pepper. I have all these great organic herbs. Rosemary, vege pepper. A little bit blasting on my salad and I'm just going to put a little bit of lemon. That really does it. This is basically my dish. A healthy green salad with grilled scallops and edamame. Lonneke's green goddess. Damn, I really like this. Do you want to try?
