ERICA DOMESEK:
Hi, I'm Erica Domesek from "P.S. I Made This" and today we're here at the lovely Bryant Park Hotel in a part of the fashion district of New York City. I've got the pleasure of being with miss Crystal Renn supermodel extraordinaire. Today we're here to make amazing things and I'm so fortunate and lucky to do arts and crafts for a living and being a stylist. I've seen great things that I've looked at and said why don't I make it myself. With that in mind, I asked my friend Crystal Renn to come along and make some things.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Which I love doing because I've been modeling for about seven years and I've been very lucky to see all different types of styles and locations that really inspire me so when I get home, I love making arts and crafts.
ERICA DOMESEK:
For today's project, I thought we'd channel the little girl inside all of us that I know everybody wore the big bows at one point
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yes, guilty.
ERICA DOMESEK:
At or another. But they're back. I've seen them on Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Milly run ways. I thought we could do our own take on that and make our own. What's your favorite fabric?
CRYSTAL RENN:
I do love lace.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Okay.
CRYSTAL RENN:
But I think my favorite is probably like a flannel material.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Let's do plaid, lace, big bow,
CRYSTAL RENN:
Great.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
All right. Let's get started. And for this project, we have some ingredients. Over here take a look at what we've got today. A plaid shirt
CRYSTAL RENN:
My favorite.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
Some black lace, scissors and some super strong duct tape.
CRYSTAL RENN:
And I'm going to be a little bit rude right now.
ERICA DOMESEK:
I got this flannel. I feel like this is kind of cool for holidays, I love the reds. To get started, what we need to do is cut a swatch of fabric. We can always trim it down so really, I would say cut it about six to 8 inches and then take your swatch of fabric and we're going to cinch it from the middle. Just like this, I really cinch it automatically, you've got that bow shape. This is maybe the best tape in the whole wide world. It's duct tape by a company called Gorilla tape. It's just the strongest tape and what I love about it is that it actually looks like leather. You hold it in the middle.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yeah.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
Perfect. Now I'm going to cinch it around the front
CRYSTAL RENN:
Okay.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
And I'm going to bring it around the back. So we've got our foundation right there for the bow.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Perfect.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Now I know you love lace
CRYSTAL RENN:
I do.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
So that's why I thought it would be really cool to give it that kind of chic Look. So what we're going to do if you could cut for me maybe something about like the same maybe like six inches.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yeah.
ERICA DOMESEK: (CONTINUED)
We're going to lay our lace just overtop of the bow and create that same look as we did because we're making another bow on top of that. Another piece of tape, wrap. I love that.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Oh, that looks great.
ERICA DOMESEK:
If you feel like it's too big, feel free to trim.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Oh.
ERICA DOMESEK:
We're going to need a way to secure it on. I love doing them in my hair but you talk about maybe doing other options.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yeah.
ERICA DOMESEK:
So let's get that same lace again and this time, I want you to cut a long skinny strip because this is going to serve as the bow to tie it on. So we're going to lay this down and we're going to put the bow just in the center point. You want the ribbon to lay horizontal with the bow.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Okay.
ERICA DOMESEK:
And we're going to put one last piece of tape to secure it. It is now on and it's not going anywhere.
CRYSTAL RENN:
It's great. I love this. I think I know something perfect to add to it.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Oh your cameo.
CRYSTAL RENN:
My Cameo pin. You can take any pin and you could put it in the middle and you get this really like vintage Victorian feel and there you go, pin and all and then you wear it.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Do you want me to tie that on for you?
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yeah.
ERICA DOMESEK:
It is so cute.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Oh, I love it. And you can wear it around the neck.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Also if you're not into plaid and lace, I think that there's so many different options that you can do.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Yeah.
ERICA DOMESEK:
If you are like a sophisticate, classic Audrey Hepburn, like white and black. This one's for like more of a muslin and rawhide. This is like boho and lastly, contemporary chic. If you think the big bow is a little intimidating, put your smaller bow on a head band.
CRYSTAL RENN:
Tada.
ERICA DOMESEK:
Thanks for joining me today on PS I made this with Crystal Renn to make these amazing bows.
CRYSTAL RENN:
I love a bow. (LAUGH)
ERICA DOMESEK:
