TERRI APANASEWICZ
Hi! I’m Terri Apanasewicz. And today on Remodeled, I’m going to recreate the look I did on Karolina Kurkova for the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. It was a very subtle look with the hair and make-up because her outfit made a statement.
First, we’re going to do volume with the blow dryer and a volumizer. Then we’re going to use a flat iron to just add a little texture and finish it off with a spray.
So first, we’re going to start with adding our volumizer. Even if your hair isn’t damp, you don’t want it to be sopping wet. But if it’s damp or even dry, don’t be afraid to add your volumizer at the root. Then you want to massage your volumizer around because there’s a lot of product in there that’s going to transfer if you just move your hair around.
Take your blow dryer--and you’re still upside down. And while you’re drying, you’re going to be lifting the hair away from the scalp. This is what’s causing your volume.
With the volumizer, it’s adding the foundation you need to retain that volume. I’m going to have you throw your head back. So you see, we got a lot more volume just with that step.
If you have really fine hair or if it’s even slightly dirty, another trick to do, get a dry shampoo after you’ve done your volumizer. Spray it at the roots. This will also give you a little bit more volume and texture. Massage it around. This distributes the product. You want to take some of the texture out.
When you’re using the flat iron, you want to keep volume at your roots. So you want to make sure that you brush through your flat iron, and keep the flat iron away from the scalp. This way, you’re straightening and making some shine. Keep the iron away from the scalp so you retain the volume.
And then we just want to finish off the ends with a little shine and movement. Add some definition to her layers. Now, do this all around the hair. And if you have bangs, you just have to decide on which way you want them to go.
For Karolina’s, we did a little bit to the side. So I added a little bend with my flat iron. As you work your way around your head, again, using your flat iron away from the roots. And you don’t want to take too small of a section because, believe it or not, it glides easier if you have a little bit more hair in the flat iron. Unless you have one of those special flat irons that’s meant to work with wet hair, make sure your hair is dry.
What we’ve done here, we’ve got a little nice straight and sheen all around. We did a little bend in her bangs. You see that we have--we still have a little bit of volume. So it’s going to have nice movement, and she doesn’t feel like it’s too flat on her head.
Okay. There’s your five-minute volume--straight and go.
So remember, what we did is we put volumizer at the root, whether our hair is damp or dry, turn our head upside down, blow drying using the other hand, pulling the hair away from the scalp. And you’re going to use your flat iron in sections--not too small--sections all the way around the head, keeping the flat iron away from the scalp.
If you have bangs or what shape you want them, you’re either going to go straight down. We decided to take her to the side like I did for Karolina and just add a nice little bend.
