COCO ROCHA
Hey, (WORD?) here. You are watching Fashion Week (TECHNICAL)
COCO ROCHA
I am with Justin and Trace. How are you guys?
TRACE AYALA
Good.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
We're good.
COCO ROCHA
Good. First question, we want to know. It is a new design group, right? So how did you two decide this is what we're gonna do? And we're gonna call it William Rast.
TRACE AYALA
Um, I think something that we've always talked about, growing up, we always talked about having a fashion line and at least being involved in fashion somehow and it was just a natural progression for the both of us. Right timing.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
We finally came up with a name and we just decided to roll with it. So this is where we are.
COCO ROCHA
And this season, a lot of people have different inspirations. I've noticed furniture has been the biggest inspiration for people.
TRACE AYALA
Really?
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Interesting. Ours was landscape.
COCO ROCHA
Landscape.
TRACE AYALA
Yeah.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Yeah, landscape.
COCO ROCHA
(WORD?)
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
The Midwest. A year ago, we debuted a collection at Bryant Park. The effort was to really push our DNA and our core which was denim meets leather. Biker culture meets (TECHNICAL)
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE (CONTINUED)
Now that we've established that, what we wanted to push for this fall is something a little deeper which is we sort of got this idea, okay, if we have this biker and kind of turned them into more of a nomad rather than just a rebel, that they actually have a cause. Or that they actually have something that they're searching for.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE (CONTINUED)
It just opened up this whole idea of discovery. We couldn't get away from the Midwest landscape which is desert, dirt roads, turns into a national forest, turns into a snow cap, peaks and mountains and that was really what our main inspiration was.
COCO ROCHA
You had fringes right? You had something like...
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
We did. Yes, we did. We did have a lot of fringe.
COCO ROCHA
There's a little bit of self-style going to this? Or is it pretty much...
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Oh, of course.
TRACE AYALA
I mean, you can't help it.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Sure. Absolutely. It's interesting. You would think because we are two males that the men's collection would be easy but it's actually really challenging.
TRACE AYALA
Yeah.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
You feel like you're handcuffed a little more. Men just want to wear what they want to wear every year. You know, they have their staples more than women. I think women are obviously more adventurous with their clothing. You can be a little more creative with the women. With the men, it's like, okay, you start with an idea and you're like, ah, we can't stray from what's really gonna work and so...
COCO ROCHA
Well, I know you guys do good since I remember a year ago and it was well received, I remember (TECHNICAL)
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Well, thank you.
COCO ROCHA
We just had our amazing interview with Trace and Justin. It is freezing out here so we're gonna get back in there and watch the William Rast Show. I'm (WORD?) . See you soon.
