LAURA BROWN
We only bring out 12 magazines a year, but it's epic. I mean, you're in a business basically of using persuasion and putting a photographer, model, writer, stylist, something. It's a faint miracle when you get an amazing shoot because you put all these pieces together and are feeling the moment and also have to think, "Okay, what shooting next week has got to be relevant in September?
I'm Laura Brown, Features And Special Projects here at the Harpers Bazaar. I book all the covers.
I think of all our featured coups, which are, kind of, more of the stunty fun pieces, with The Simpsons Going To Paris, Tyra dressed up as the First Lady, Chloe Sevigny, you know, at a rehab clinic. Those, kind of, like, wacky, talked about, fashion stories.
ANA MARIA WILSON
Ana Maria Wilson, Fashion News And Features Director of Harpers Bazaar. And I'm in charge of all the front of book, news pages in the magazine, as well as writing and editing the majority of the fashion stories in the book.
Basically when we were doing the concept for doing the shoot with Gisele for our cover with Hatch and it being the Lindberg Issue, a model issue, and the return to models, we, sort of, wanted to do an homage. The idea was hatched to do Gisele in these iconic images paying homage to the photographers and their muses in the last, five, six decades in the modeling world.
And one of the shots that we were particularly keen on doing is this Richard Avedon shot of, they're obviously very famous, of Brooke Shields in the Calvin Klein Jeans, "Nothing Stands Between Me And My Calvins." This shot was actually an homage to, an Yves Saint Laurent Opium ad with Jerry Hall from the '70s.
LAURA BROWN
Gisele is a celebrity in her own way because she's become such the model. She's got such a presence that makes her attractive and, and saleable. Oh, we love Lily Donaldson.
MALE
Where is she?
ANA MARIA WILSON
Here. Yeah. We're very fond of her. She's gorgeous.

It's good. Look, we work on these things and, honestly, as a reader, you're so deep into it. You know what I mean? You can actually see it with a really fresh eye. And I think, I'm just in touch, I mean all these models together and this whole narrative of the issue also, repeated photography and everything. I think, that's even really, really fresh. Especially with Bazaar's fantastic history of discovering some of these models and of whom had their first covers with us, and to go back through our own history is kind of extraordinary.
